Reaction Of People To Depressed
by depressiondoctor on June 20th, 2006
There are people who could feel as to what other people are going through and there are people who do not care as to what others are going through. There is a wide range of differences in human beings who move on in totally opposite directions. It is strange but it is true. There are a lot of people who would care so much and would try to help people in whatever way possible, but on the other hand some people would try to hurt.
Apart from categorization of people into the two major categories, it is important to know that it is not necessary that the people would be able to see as to what the different individuals are going through. When an individual starts to drift from their normal self, this is something that the family members are able to see and spot very quickly, but there are times when the parents and siblings are unable to see the change coming across.
When the parents and the loved ones find that the individual is going through the depressed feeling, they will try to comfort the individual with the love and kindness and support them in hopes that their bad feelings and the sadness that is making them feel so bad inside just passes and they are able to be their normal self. The loved ones try to talk out things to know the source of these feelings and to determine as to what can be done to overcome these feelings. It must be known that you being the loved one is unable to get the bad feelings out, then you must advice them to seek the help of a professional.
There are some individuals who do not really understand as to what is really going through in the lives of the individuals who are going through depression and they think that they are just going through a lazy period in their life. These people just scold the individual who is going through depression and will make them feel worse and will criticize them to the point that they can take a very wrong step in their lives. Therefore it is really very important to be very careful in the way we treat the individuals who are going through depression.
We need to be very polite when we determine that the individual is going through depression. It is going to be good when you are able to persuade the individual to talk and share their feelings and if the condition is extreme just talk them into see a doctor who will be able to prescribe the medications and explain them the different signs and symptoms to them that should be on the look out for.

Don’t Try To Fight Depression Alone
by depressiondoctor on June 15th, 2006
There are a lot of people who are living their own lives and do not have anyone to share the things that they are going through on a day to day basis even though they are surrounded by people. This is becoming a very common thing these days and the people are getting lonelier in this fast paced world.
Since the people are living a very isolated life, there are a lot of people who are slowly developing the signs and symptoms of depression, but they keep that to themselves and are not interested in talking with any one as to what are the different things that they are going through inside.
We just need to be on the lookout as to what are the different things that are just winding down our loved ones into its affects. We need to observe them very closely and see as to what are the changes in the behaviors that are there along with the passage of time. Our loved ones depend on us and we need to take care of them.
It is really important that the individuals who are going through such feelings where they want to isolate themselves and feel more quiet on the inside, they must realize that being quiet is only one option, but if they open themselves up, they will be much more able to find out as to what is going on with them by sharing their thoughts with the ones who they trust.
Just remember that there are a lot of people who are going into the depressive symptoms who are really close in your surroundings, they may be at your work, your home, your school etc. and if you are close with them, you can cheer them up and can help them go through the feelings so that they are not closing out on everyone.
Depression is not something that can be fought alone, but is something that needs the help of people surrounding you, so that you can share as to what are the things you are going through and how you would be able to take care of the emerging problems.
We humans are made for each other and we are there to support each other and listen to each other to help make our lives smooth. We are not the only ones in the world who are going through these feelings of depression but there are a lot of people throughout the world who are going through these feelings.
There is a survey that there are a lot of people who are going through depression and thus are receiving medications to manage it and the numbers are rising higher and higher each year.
Just remember that if you are able to share the feelings and you tell different people that you were able to handle it because of sharing your feelings with the different people, then I hope that there are a lot of people who would follow in your foot steps.

Story Of My Friend Who Went Through Depression
by depressiondoctor on May 14th, 2006
I have seen my friend suffering through depression right in front of my eyes and have seen her going too low in her moods, which was really pretty hurting. I have had problems communicating with her and that was very distressing for me.
I was unable to see my friend go through such lows in her life where she was unable to share anything with me and I honestly didn’t know what to do. I went to online forums that are specific for people who are going through the phases of depression and saw people talking about the misery that they had been going through and how they are overcoming it.
Those forums helped me a lot as to how I would be able to have a chance of helping my friend out. I also sent mails to a couple of groups who were helping people who were suffering from depression and they gave me a few tips and ideas as to how I can help my friend. Now I had some basic knowledge as to how I would be able to tackle this and help my friend come out of this miserable state she was in.
The first thing that I did was that I told her about the good days that we had and how we enjoyed different things to just loosen her up so I could get inside and know as to what is the problem that she is going through right now. To my surprise, she started responding on the different things that I was discussing and we just had a really good time that day and I never touched on the things that she was suffering through.
On that day when she started responding, I asked her that we will go out for dinner and it has been pretty long since we had such a time and she was just not feeling ready for it, but I pushed thing s a little and she agreed. Then we had a very nice day where we enjoyed dinner and had a good long drive. I was just waiting for her to share her feelings rather than me asking her as to what she is going through and she finally started to talk and told me as to what was taking her deep down and I told him that we can find a way to solve it and we will solve it and she does not have to worry about that.
The next day we sat down and find a way to solve her problem and then she was really happy finding a solution to it. You just cannot imagine as to how happy I was seeing my friend coming out of that feeling of depression and I felt really good inside that I was able to help my friend.
The people who are going through depression just hide themselves more if they are pushed, we just need to comfort them and give them space so that they could come out of their hideouts and share as to what they are feeling and we are all open to listen and help them out from the different things and phases that they are going through.
Internet Helping People With Depression
by depressiondoctor on May 9th, 2006
Depression is a feeling of sadness, despair and hopelessness that can last for days or even months. These feelings just make the individual drown and the people are not able to come up to the surface to breathe fresh air but are being captured throughout by these feelings, which make them isolate from their surroundings and leave them all alone.
The only way that the individual can come out of these feelings of despair is when they allow themselves out of these feelings, but if they do not allow them to be free from them, these feelings just chain themselves up with them and do not let them free. In order to come out of these feelings, it is really necessary that the individuals come out of it, else the feelings will not free them.
If you are an individual who is computer savvy and who knows how to surf on computer, you can very easily find the different forums present on Internet where a lot of people come online and talk on different issues that they are going through and thus help each other understand and support as to how they can combat these feelings and how different people have come out of their depressed feelings and have found a new life where they are now living a bright and a happy life.

Depression & Mania
by depressiondoctor on May 4th, 2006
There are conditions where depression does not present itself as a single entity, but present themselves with some other behavioral disorder known as mania. This condition where both the depression and the mania present itself are known as bipolar disorder.
Bipolar means that we need to consider to poles at the opposite extreme direction, where one entity lies such as depression and on the other end lies mania. The individuals who are going through this condition just oscillate between these two feelings and they either display the symptoms of depression or mania.
In mania the individual is pretty hyperactive and they talk and move pretty fast. In this state the individual has extreme sex desire and decreased inhibition. These individuals then switch from being into the manic state to depressive state in which they feel sad, hopeless and filled with despair.
It is also being said that the individuals who suffer from the bipolar illness might have the genetic predisposition of this illness and thus suffer through the symptoms of bipolar disease.
It is always best that this problem is being diagnosed in the earlier stages and thus would help the individual from suffering the symptoms of this problem. Therefore, whenever you feel that you are going through the symptoms of bipolar disorder, you must seek the help of a physician who could analyze your condition or you could simply refer yourself to a psychiatrist so that you can get the treatment for this condition as soon as possible.
You must realize that this problem is seriously affecting the mental health of your family and for that matter it is really necessary that you realize that the treatment of this condition is really necessary for you.
Some people do not opt to get themselves checked by a doctor or a psychiatrist because they think that nothing is wrong with them and they keep on spending their lives the way they had been and the situation gets worse and worse with time. This will not only uproot your life, but will also put your family into a life full of flames and anger and distorted mind. So it is vital that you opt to have treatment for your family and your loved ones so that you all can spend a happy life.
Postpartum Depression
by depressiondoctor on April 25th, 2006
Depression that occurs during the period of pregnancy or within one year after the delivery is known as postpartum depression. This condition is one of the main complications of pregnancy. Our article today is to inform you about this condition so that the women who are going through the pregnancy or have been within a year of their delivery can learn the different aspects of postpartum depression.
Now as we know as to what postpartum depression is, we must now know as to what are the different reasons that cause this depression. There are a lot of factors that lead to postpartum depression, which includes anxiety regarding the concerns for the health of the baby, little or no support from family and friends, excessive workloads. There could be a bout of severe depression if the individual has gone through problems with previous pregnancy, financial problems, marital issues, pregnancy at young age etc.
All these factors lead to excessive bouts of depression and can affect the health of both the mother and the child and thus can complicate the pregnancy. Apart from all the reasons mentioned above, doctors state that during pregnancy, the women have very high levels of estrogen and progesterone and when the women have given child to birth, the levels of these hormones rapidly turn back to normal and the sudden drop of these hormones to reach the normal levels make the women go through the bouts of depression.
The doctors also state that after giving birth, the levels of the thyroid hormones also drop very rapidly and then decreased levels of thyroid hormones cause depressed mood.
Some other factors that cause depression after birth are decreased sleep, doubts of being inability to take care of the child, thoughts about whether she will be a good mother or not, thoughts about whether the figure would ever be regained or not. All of the symptoms mentioned above leads to excessive crying episodes, feeling a whole lot irritable, trouble focusing on things, a feeling of being worthless, emotional lability etc.
It is being seen that women normally do not discuss about postpartum depression because they feel that it would be perceived in a very odd way and no one will understand them and due to the fact, they do not discuss anything about what they are going through. When you feel that you are going through the symptoms that are mentioned above, you must share your thoughts with your doctor and ask for their help. You can also sought help through a counselor and can attend group sessions where different women who are pregnant are attending a group meeting and discussing the different things that they are going through, which will give you strength and will help you get out of the depression problems you are going through.

by depressiondoctor on April 22nd, 2006
Since depression takes most of the things out of your life, it also damages your skills and your professional expertise at a massive level. We all know that it is because of our skills and our expertise in different fields we are able to earn and manage the finances and meet our needs of our daily life.
You surely know that it is really important for you to be able to perform your job with the complete focus and concentration, but depression tends to erode the sense of responsibility out of you and take your mind away from the tasks on which you need to focus.
During the time that you are getting focused out of the work, this zooming out is something that you and your colleagues will know about. This is going to raise the concern of your employers, as this is affecting the work and is jeopardizing the current operations of the organization.
Your immediate boss is going to call you and would try to know about your problems and at that point in time you must share of some of the things that you need to so that your boss can know as to what are the issues that you are going through. This is going to help you get some time off of work and will allow you to take care of the problems you are going through.
You must understand that since this issue is now in the knowledge of your employers, you must now work in a positive way to get out of it because you have the opportunity to have some time on your own where you could meet with your doctor, as well as attend the different group meetings where you can share your thoughts and feelings as to what you are going through so that you are able to get out those feelings as soon as possible.
Is It Good To Open Yourself When Going Through Depression
by depressiondoctor on April 18th, 2006
How important do you feel is to share your feelings when you are going through depression? I know you are thinking and if you are going through a bout of depression, you might think that it is best not to share anything with anyone.
I have been talking a lot in my articles of depression that it is so much important that you must be able to differentiate between the state of depression and your true self. In reality, you are not a person who would go totally isolated, who would not share things with the loved ones, you are pretty polite and loving and caring, but you need to see that you are pushing all the loved ones away who are trying to get close to you.
There are times when we feel that it is really good that we not share our feelings, which is okay, but the thing to be realized is that it is best that you share your feelings whom you trust. When you would share your feelings, you would feel that you are not into as much dark as you were before and things have started to turn a little better on your inside.
Just remember that you are not alone and mostly the feelings that are there in depression is that you are all alone and there is no one there for you. This is not how you were thinking earlier. There might be some mishap in your life and you are so overwhelmed by those feelings that you seem to lose yourself.
Just remember that still there are a lot of people who love you, who would meet you at some point in your life that you don’t seem to see now as you cannot see or predict future, but remember that bad times never stay the same, they turn and then comes the good times. Life is the name of highs and lows in life and you must not be the ones who drown, but the ones who stand up and fight.
Depression Is Contagious
by depressiondoctor on April 16th, 2006
As infections have the potential to spread, depression has the same potential too where it can be transferred from one human to another. The main reason to share this thought was to give you an understanding that if you are going through depression, just raise your head and see as to how many people who are part of you are going through the same feelings.
Did you know that before that depression was contagious, that it transfers from one human to another. If you didn’t know it before, then it is in your knowledge now and I am glad that you are going through this article to learn this fact..
When you went into a depressed state, your family and the friends were the first ones who came to know about, even if you try to hide your feelings, you cannot hide it, because one way or the other you are going to expose yourself as to how you are feeling. You would be different in certain ways that would allow your family and friends to determine that something is wrong with you.
In a depressed state, the individual tends to have as much time alone as they can and this is the fact that depression starts to gain its ground. When you start finding your time in isolation, you are neglecting the time that your spouse and your children need. They will try to comfort you, but this state tends to pull the person into their own and you will not find a way to come out.
Then when you will not be open to your family, this will put them through a series of questions as to went wrong and what are the things that they have done wrong that have put you in such a situation that you are wanting to be alone. This will put them through the depressed feelings as well. This is going to affect all your family and know that you will not be alone.
In order to save yourself and your family from this situation, you need to share your feelings, you need to tell them as to why you are feeling that way and how can you come out of those feelings. When you will share, you will see as to how much support you are going to get from your loved ones that it will not be difficult for you to get yourself back. Just be open and do not close yourself out. I think that is the best remedy. The ones around you love you and want you to feel the best.
