Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

Description

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder is a disorder that is only common in women and this can cause women to experience unpleasant, emotional experiences just before the start of their monthly menstrual period. These feelings can usually affect their daily lives and they can also cause an impact on their relationships with other people. But then when their period starts the feelings will disappear but as soon as the next period is about to start they will start to have these feelings again. Not a lot of women are sufferers of premenstrual dysphoric disorder the figure is about 5% of women in the United States and this figure just goes to show that even though this number can rise there is also not many people that will know what this disorder is. Some women may not even notice that they will have this disorder. Because they may feel that all women will get these feelings before their monthly periods. The severity of these symptoms will also differ between each sufferer but you can be sure that whoever does have this disorder then their bodies will have to suffer this problem until they seek the correct help.

Symptoms

The symptoms for premenstrual dysphoric disorder will only occur once a month but when they do occur you can be sure that they will be pretty severe for the sufferer. They will start to fell the difference in their body every month and they will feel emotionally different which can result in the patient taking out their frustrations on their partners and other close people that they have around them. It is very hard for some of these women to understand what is actually going on inside their bodies. These feelings will also affect their daily lives due to the fact that they may not feel good enough to even get out of the bed and this can then lead them into a more depressing feeling. If these feelings do interfere with their daily lives then they are likely to not concentrate when they are at work and this can result in them falling behind with work. This disorder also happens every month just before a woman’s monthly cycle so if you do feel emotionally drained every month then you are strongly urged to go and see your doctor for a full diagnosis.

Treatment

There are some treatments available for premenstrual dysphoric disorder sufferers. These treatments are in the form of medication and some of them are fairly new to the market so they haven’t been fully used by women all over the world. Some of these treatments will work with some women while others may not feel the full benefits of having them. There are now three main medications that are available to women who suffer from this disorder. There is a medication that will release some paroxetine into the patient’s body while the other drugs contain sarafem and also sertraline. All these medications have been approved to help out people that suffer from this skin disease. However there are other treatments available but they are not as recognized and they are not available for widespread use. But some women have used them and they did produce very good results for these women. Some women have found that exercising or even changing their diet slightly will help them become more able to avoid this disorder from creeping up on them.

Causes

There are a few things that might cause a woman to experience premenstrual dysphoric disorder. These things are usually a family history of mood disorders as well as premenstrual depression and stress. All these kinds of things that have happened in a persons past will usually be a major cause of premenstrual dysphoric disorder. But there has been research lately that has told us that a patient must show at least 5 symptoms before they are considered to have this disorder.

Summary

This disorder does seem to be highly uncommon in women with only 5% of women being diagnosed with having premenstrual dysphoric disorder. However even if they are diagnosed with this disorder there is medication that they are able to take just so that this disorder does not interfere with their daily lives. If you feel depressed or surprisingly angry before the start of your monthly cycle then you are recommended to go to your doctor if you fear that it might be premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
