Amineptine Prescription Drug Medication and Addiction Information

Amineptine is a medication that is similar to imipramine. It is a tricyclic medication used to counteract depression that also has psycho-stimulant properties. This medication has been approved in France in the year 1978, and is known by the brand names of Survector, Maneon, and Directin

It is still considered very controversial in the United States, Britain, and other countries. In fact, France had later on taken Amineptine off the market. The reason why, is because patients could easily become dependent upon this drug. Mental health professionals who administer this medication are advised to so with extreme caution.

How it Works

Amineptine works as it releases dopamine at synapses. One definition of synapses is as follows: The occurrence of the intersection through which a nerve impulse crosses from an axon terminal to a neuron (or muscle cell or gland cell).

Amineptine also performs another reaction-the inhibition of the uptake of dopamine.

Dosage Information and Usage of Amineptine

It can be potentially an addictive medication if one is not careful. The dosage should be monitored very carefully by a psychiatrist or medical doctor. This medication should only be taken as directed, and can be taken with or without food. A person taking this should not suddenly stop taking it without first consulting a doctor.

If a dose is missed then that person would just continue with the next regularly scheduled dosage and not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

In Case of Overdose

If you accidentally overdose and it negatively affects your body, you will need to seek medical help immediately. For less urgent cases regarding overdose you will want to contact your local poison control center.

If you have any existing medical conditions of any kind you will want to make sure your doctor approves of you taking any medication, including Amineptine. However, most people will do fine taking it. If your doctor approves, he or she will write you a prescription.

Precautions

If you have any concern about whether or not you should drive or operate heavy machinery on this medication you can ask your doctor. It is important that you get as much information as possible before taking this medication.

You also need to make sure you store this and other medication away from extreme heat or light. In addition, you will need to discard of unused or outdated meds properly. In addition, you will want to keep this drug locked away where children cannot reach it.

Depression Tip
Remind yourself of ONE thing: you are not your depression. This state of pain or panic is not an integral part of you, and it is not your fault. And it will go.
