Trilafon (Perphenazine): Drug Information, Side Effects and Precautions

Trilafon is also known by its generic name, which is Perphenazine. It is most commonly used to help treat those with schizophrenic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and hostility. However it has also been proven to be helpful in the treatment of anxiety and depression.

Description and Usage of Trilafon

Trilafon is antipsychotic medications that helps control or reduce delusions, hallucinations, hostility, and more. It is known as what is called a phenothiazine and tricyclic antidepressant combination. It has also been known to treat anxiety as well.

If you Miss a Dose: You will need to take the next one as soon as you remember. When it is time for your next dose do not take a double dose to make up for the one missed. This will only cause more problems.

The Storage of Trilafon

Make sure you keep this medication away from children. It can be very dangerous, especially if taken in excess dosages. Keep it sealed tight in the container that it came in and keep it away from extreme sources of heat and moisture. In fact, it is recommended that you not store it in the bathroom, which is a place where most meds are stored.

  • Menstrual irregularities or swollen breasts
  • Mild restlessness, drowsiness, or tremor

More serious, but less common side effects include on or more of the following:

  • Allergic reaction (Swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, hives, etc.)
  • Uncontrollable movements of tongue, face, lips, arms, or legs
  • Muscle spasms in your face or neck
  • Severe Drowsiness
  • Rash

Most of the above mentioned side effects as well as others not listed on this page do not happen very often. Likewise, side effects that are most common are also ones that are not fatal or seriously harmful. Most of the side effects are mild to moderate, and tend to discontinue after some time.

You also have to make sure that you get a complete physical and mental examination before choosing any medication.
